Porcelain Laminate

From the past to the present, full crowns have been used for the treatment of unaesthetic teeth, but since these crowns caused a large amount of material loss from the tooth, they also caused damage to the pulpal and periodontal tissues of the tooth. With the development of adhesive techniques and composite resins, new techniques have emerged and healthy tooth tissues have begun to be protected. Porcelain laminate veneers offer the patient the opportunity to improve their smile in a minimally invasive way, sometimes even without any abrasion. Porcelain laminate veneers can be prepared by preparing very thin 0.3-0.7 mm in cases where the shape, surface structure and position of the teeth are changed.

Advantages

1) It offers an appearance close to the optical properties of natural teeth.

2) Protects healthy tooth tissue.

3) The bond between etched porcelain veneers is stronger than other materials.

4) It is more resistant to abrasion, water absorption and discoloration than composite resins.

5) Since the surface structure is well polished, plaque accumulation is less and it is more compatible with the gum tissues.

Who Can Have Porcelain Laminate Teeth Applied To?

1) Cases where no results are obtained with whitening treatment

2) In cases of diastema, which is separation between teeth.

3) In widespread material losses due to wear and erosion.

4) Patients who complain about the shape and length of their teeth

5) In large tooth fractures

6) Developmental and hereditary dental disorders

Application Stages of Porcelain Laminate Veneer Treatment

Anamnesis and Initial Examination

For a detailed examination, first a full mouth radiograph should be taken, then the teeth, occlusion, gums, soft tissues and joints should be examined. In addition, intraoral and extraoral photographs should be taken from the patient before starting treatment.

Gum Surgery

In cases where pink aesthetics need to be adjusted, gum adjustment may be necessary to reduce gum appearance before starting treatment.

In order to cause less damage to the teeth, whitening treatment should be performed first in patients who are not satisfied with the color of their teeth.

Wax Up Application

In order to show the treatment plan to the patient in three dimensions, the technician prepares a wax-up model based on the patient’s measurements.

Making a Mock Up

With the help of a silicone key made using the wax-up model, the design made by the technician is transferred into the mouth and presented to the patient for approval.

Tooth Preparation

The tooth preparation for porcelain laminate veneers should be based on the final smile design. The most important point here is that the preparation should remain within the enamel boundaries of the tooth in order to obtain high bonding values.
