Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a treatment applied in cases where the vascular nerve bundle called pulp of the tooth is inflamed or damaged. It is usually applied as a result of deep caries and dental traumas. Pulp tissue damaged as a result of caries and trauma can cause symptoms such as pain, swelling, and infection. For the treatment of this pain and infection, pulp tissue is removed, the root canal system is cleaned with special disinfection solutions, and the canal is filled with special filling materials. Then, the upper structure is restored with filling, inlay, onlay, endocrown and crown (coating) restorations depending on the degree of damage to the visible part of the tooth, that is, the crown part.

Root Canal Treatment Process Steps

1. X-rays are taken for detailed examination of the root canal system before the procedure.

2. Applying local anesthesia to the procedure area

3. Isolation: In order to keep the relevant tooth away from blood and saliva, it is isolated with a rubber dam.

4. Opening an access cavity: A cavity, that is, a space, is opened on the upper part of the tooth in order to provide access to the root canal system.

5. Cleaning the damaged pulp tissue

6. Shaping the root canals with special instruments

7. Disinfection: Washing the channels with special disinfection solutions.

Things to Consider After Root Canal Treatment

After root canal treatment, oral care should be taken care of, and tooth brushing and flossing should never be neglected. Hard foods and smoking should be avoided for the first few days after treatment. In case of pain, painkillers can be used with the doctor’s recommendation. After root canal treatment, doctor check-ups should not be neglected to better evaluate the healing process of the tooth.
