Implant Treatment

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are screws made of titanium and placed inside the jawbone, used in the treatment of single or multiple tooth deficiencies. The titanium material used in this treatment is a biocompatible material and acts as an artificial tooth root. After the implants are surgically placed inside the jawbone, they fuse with the jawbone and then the upper structure, that is, the part of the tooth that is seen in the mouth, is made and the treatment is completed. The advantages of implant treatment include not damaging the adjacent teeth, protecting the jawbone and having an appearance and function similar to natural teeth. Implant treatment should be performed by jaw surgeons who are specialized in the field.

İmplant Tedavisi Basamakları

Implant Treatment Steps

2. Eğer çene kemiği yetersizse implant uygulaması öncesinde greft, kemik tozu, sinüs tabanının yükseltilmesi gibi ekstra cerrahi işlemler yapılır.

2. If the jaw bone is insufficient, additional surgical procedures such as grafting, bone powder, and elevation of the sinus floor are performed before implant application.

4. Healing process; It takes at least 3 months for the implant to fuse with the jawbone. During this period, temporary prosthetics can be applied to patients who do not want to be without teeth.

5. Attaching the healing cap: After the time required for the implant to fuse with the bone, the healing cap is attached with a minor surgical intervention.

6. Taking impressions; Measurements of the mouth are taken for the construction of permanent teeth.

7. Attaching permanent prostheses and completing the superstructure

Situations Where Dental Implants Cannot Be Applied

1. Chronic diseases that are not under control (e.g. diabetes)

    2. Patients with insufficient bone volume

    3. Patients with severe osteoporosis

    4. Individuals who smoke a lot

    5. Patients in the growth and development age

    6. Individuals who have received radiotherapy to the head and neck region

Things to Consider After Implant Treatment

After the implant operation, oral hygiene should be taken seriously. It is important to pay attention to brushing your teeth and using mouthwash as recommended by your doctor. Avoid applying direct pressure to the surgical area in the first few days.

Hot foods and drinks should be avoided for the first 24 hours. Soft foods should be consumed and care should be taken not to strain the surgical area while chewing. Pain and swelling are normal after implant surgery. It is important to use the medications recommended by the jaw surgeon who performed the implant surgery. After the surgery, ice is applied to the relevant area to reduce swelling. Smoking and alcohol consumption should not be used as they will negatively affect the healing process. Heavy exercise and effort should be avoided as they will increase the risk of bleeding after the surgery.
